NORMAN — Win or lose tonight, the Oklahoma Sooners no longer have to worry about playing Wichita State again.
The fourth-seeded Shockers were eliminated from the Norman Regional on Saturday afternoon after losing 3-2 to Washington State at Mitchell Park.
Back-to-back home runs by Washington State’s Derek Jones and Jared Prince doomed the Shockers, who played the Sooners tough in a 5-4 loss Friday night.
On the mound, Chad Arnold (8-3) struck out a career-high 10 batters to pick up the win for Washington State (32-24), which next plays the loser of OU-Arkansas in an elimination game on Sunday.
Wichita State starter Jordan Cooper (8-6) took the loss, but only allowed one hit other than the two homers in a complete-game effort.
Cooper also struck out 10 batters for the Shockers (30-27).
