The Yankees' Joba Chamberlain struck out Cleveland's David Dellucci, pumped his fist and let out a whoop.

I thought it was a fun article. But baseball is fun, and the controveries it stirs up are fun, too. I like the Zambrano-Barrett exchanges (on occasion). I liked the way Tommy Lasorda and Lou Pinella kick dirt on the umpires (sometimes). I like the thinking aspect to the game, the high drama, the exciting homerun or RBI single, or walk-off walk. It's all great. I remember the Chicago White Sox in the 1970s with Richie Zisk tried some softballish uniforms with shorts, and I think they once proposed to have multicolored baseballs. The whole baseball atmosphere is like a carnival and it is fun with the food and the yelling, and the occasional drunk. People will say what they want to say. Managers might tell them to shut-up, or send them down, but it's still all fun to me. It's not boring at all.

Berry, you are sooooooo right. Every syllable in this column is dead-on concerning a game I love but is being sucked dry by ridiculous and arbitrary non-written "rules." Sports should be fun. There's nothing wrong with spontaneous and authentic joy -- whether from rookies or veterans -- as long as any celebration isn't directed at the opposing player, team, or fans.
