Oklahoma City banker James R. Daniel, a 1962 graduate of Baylor University, received the distinguished alumni award from the Baylor Alumni Association.
The award, presented annually since 1965 as the highest honor the Baylor Alumni Association bestows, recognizes Baylor graduates whose service in their professions and vocations have merited the honor and acclaim of peers and colleagues.
Daniel is vice chairman of BancFirst, serving as a member of the executive committee, corporate board and trust company board. He has been a leader in banking in Oklahoma for more than four decades, having begun his career at Friendly Bank of Oklahoma City in 1964 after earning his degree in economics and finance.
By the time he was 32, he was the youngest bank president in the state at the time.
Daniel is also well-known in the field of health care in Oklahoma. First elected to the Baptist Medical Center board of directors in 1973, he eventually became chairman. He became a member of the Integris Health board of directors in 1995 and was its chair.
