IRVING, Texas (AP) — Baylor senior quarterback Bryce Petty and TCU defensive end Devonte Fields are the Big 12 preseason players of the year.
The league released its preseason All-Big 12 teams Wednesday as selected by media members who cover the conference.
Petty passed for 4,200 yards and 32 touchdowns while setting 17 school records last season as the Bears won their first Big 12 title and played in their only BCS bowl.
Fields was also the top preseason defensive pick last season, but had only four tackles without a sack while playing only three games before a foot injury.
Oklahoma State receiver Tyreek Hill is the preseason newcomer of the year. The transfer from Garden City Community College won the 200 meters at the Big 12 indoor track and field championship this spring.
