NORMAN — About 70 members of the Christian Men's Fellowship at First Christian Church served up beans and cornbread Tuesday to hundreds who turned out for the annual Benefit Bean Dinner that raises money for the Health for Friends medication fund.
At $5 a ticket, the proceeds help pay for prescriptions for low-income residents served by the Health For Friends clinic at 317 E Himes St.
“This financial support makes a huge difference in our ability to help our low-income patients get well and stay well,” said Brian Karnes, chief executive officer.
Crews arrive at 4 a.m. the day of the dinner to begin cooking. Meals are served at lunch and dinner. Since its inception 23 years ago, the event has raised more than $100,000 for Health for Friends.
