KRUGER GETS IT STARTED

Exactly three years after being named Oklahoma’s men’s basketball coach, Lon Kruger threw out the first pitch before Tuesday’s game.

Kruger grew up playing both baseball and basketball in Kansas. He was 1-6 with a 2.81 ERA with a pair of Cardinals minor league affiliates in the 1974 season.

His first coaching job was as a volunteer baseball assistant at Washburn.

Kruger isn’t the only Sooners basketball coach to get his start with an April 1 hire. Billy Tubbs was hired on April 1, 1980.
