Bedlam baseball: Oklahoma's slump continues

With one more game to play, Oklahoma has already lost the Bedlam series.

For the third straight year.

And that's not the worst of it.

Once looking like a lock for the postseason, the Sooners' late-season struggles could jeopardize their hopes for an NCAA Tournament berth. After holding or sharing first place in the Big 12 from the conference's opening weekend, Saturday's 4-3 loss to Oklahoma State dropped OU into a fourth-place tie in the league standings.

The loss also dropped them in the RPI, down to No. 48.

“Very frustrating,” said Sooners coach Sunny Golloway. “We haven't played bad, we just haven't played well enough to win.

“I think we've just got to keep going. We've got to stay mentally tough, and I think the breaks even out in the long run and we're going to get some down the road.”

Except the road is running out.

After Sunday's Bedlam finale, OU hosts Dallas Baptist on Tuesday, then visits league-leader Kansas State next weekend.

Even the presence of ace Jonathan Gray wasn't enough to lift the Sooners on Saturday.
