NORMAN — Oklahoma appeared it would rout Bedlam basketball rival Oklahoma State to end a six-game losing streak Wednesday night at Lloyd Noble Center.
The Sooners romped to a 77-64 win to end the slide but not before Keiton Page and the Cowboys made a run to momentarily make it interesting midway through the second half.
Led by a double-double from Romero Osby (16 points, 13 rebounds) and 17 points from Steven Pledger, the Sooners avoided falling below .500 for the first time all season. OU improved to 14-13 overall, 4-11 in league play.
OSU (13-15 overall, 6-9 in league play) was led by Page's game-high 29 points, 26 coming in the second half.
Coming off a 40-point outing, Page posted his first career double-digit outing at Lloyd Noble Center. But it took him awhile to heat up. Page finished 9-of-21 from the field, including nine 3-pointers but was 1-of-8 the first half.
OU dominated the first half to lead 30-12 at halftime. OSU shot 17 percent the first half with more than twice as many turnovers (nine) as made baskets (four). Page and Le'Bryan Nash were a combined 2-of-15 from the field.
The Cowboys, though, opened the second half as hot as they were cold the first half. OSU scored 27 points the opening seven minutes of the second half to cut the deficit to 42-39.
OSU twice attempted and missed 3-pointers that would have tied the game. The Cowboys would never get closer.
Sparked by two Osby baskets and buckets from Tyler Neal and Pledger, the Sooners answered with a 9-0 run to push the lead back to double digits.
OU had four players in double figures. Cameron Clark scored 14 and Sam Grooms added 10. Neal contributed nine.
Nash finished with 10 points but was 3-of-15 from the field. Brian Williams added 11 points.
