As Oklahoma State players prepare for this week’s Bedlam game at Boone Pickens Stadium, perhaps they should let their fingernails grow out a bit.

More than a few games in Stillwater have slipped through the Cowboys’ fingers.

This is the 20th anniversary of the ball slipping through the hands of OSU receiver Brent Parker in the end zone with 43 seconds left in the 1988 game that ended in a 31-28 OU victory.

Much of this millennium has been marked by jump balls, tipped balls and fingertip control in games at Stillwater.

→In 2000, OSU quarterback Aso Pogi threw a jump ball into the end zone toward 6-foot-4 tight end Marcellus Rivers, who was being defended by 5-foot-11 cornerback Derrick Strait.

Using his 39½-inch vertical leap, Strait jumped and batted the slightly underthrown ball to preserve the 12-7 victory with 5:14 remaining.

→In 2004, Cowboys quarterback Donovan Woods dropped back and threw deep to streaking receiver Prentiss Elliott, who had handily beaten his defender.

Woods threw perhaps two feet too far past the diving Elliott, who was near the 5 yard-line.
