Bedlam recruiting notebook: Norman North's Jordan Evans gets offer from OU

by Ryan Aber and Scott Wright Published: November 24, 2012

Norman North linebacker Jordan Evans had a monster game Friday night in the Timberwolves’ 49-42 win over Owasso.

Evans had a sack that ended the game and returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown as Norman North advanced to the Class 6A championship game.

Saturday, after witnessing Oklahoma’s 51-48 overtime win over Oklahoma State, Evans received an offer from the Sooners.

Evans’ dad, Scott, was a Sooners standout defensive lineman from 1987-90.

Evans’ other offers include Air Force, Arkansas State, Colorado State, Navy, New Mexico, Ohio and UNLV.

Evans becomes the sixth in-state 2013 player with a Sooners offer. The other five -- D.J. Ward, Tulsa East Central’s Stanvon Taylor, Tulsa Washington’s Dominique Alexander, Tulsa Union’s Dalton Rodriguez and Jenks’ Jordan Smallwood -- have committed to the Sooners.

Crete-Monee (Ill.) standout Laquon Treadwell, the nation's No. 1-rated wide receiver prospect, had hoped to be at Owen Field Saturday for the Bedlam game, but instead, his team was busy playing for Illinois' Class 6A state championship.

Treadwell, who is expected to visit Oklahoma and Oklahoma State before Signing Day in February, rushed for one touchdown and threw for another as Crete-Monee won its first state championship, 33-26 over Cary-Grove, on Saturday.

Treadwell also converted a two-point conversion and intercepted a pass as Crete-Monee completed a 14-0 season.

Treadwell told the Chicago Tribune last week that he will make official visits to OU, OSU and Ole Miss. He will make his other two official visits to either Michigan, Michigan State or Notre Dame, though none of his five visits have been scheduled.

Earlier this month, Treadwell was announced as one of 16 U.S. Army Player of the Year candidates. Six finalists will be announced Wednesday.

Among the visitors for Saturday's Bedlam game was the Sooners' newest commitment, 2014 running back Devon Thomas of Broken Arrow.

Thomas and Jenks junior defensive back Steven Parker each have offers from Oklahoma State as well as the Sooners.

Defensive end D.J. Ward, who is expected to enroll at OU in January, was also in attendance.
