For the third time this year, there's a new state record in the girls 3,200-meter run.
Beggs junior Regan Ward broke the record and beat the previous record-holder with a time of 10:38.38 Tuesday night at the Meet of Champions in Moore.
The status of the record was incorrectly reported in Wednesday's editions of The Oklahoman, but Ward's new record will stand, according to the Oklahoma Track Coaches Association.
Plainview's Alex Davis, the previous record-holder, finished second to Ward Tuesday. In doing so, she beat her previous state record of 10:47.67 by two seconds, but Ward was well ahead. Davis had set the state record twice during the regular season.
This wasn't the first head-to-head meeting for Ward and Davis. The two girls battled in the 1,600 and 3,200 at the Class 3A state meet in Ardmore earlier this month. Ward won the 1,600, and Davis won the 3,200.
