Bell projected as Sooners starting TE, other notes from OU's depth chart

by Ryan Aber Published: August 25, 2014

After starting eight games at quarterback last season, Blake Bell looks destined to start Saturday’s season opener at Louisiana Tech at tight end.

Bell was listed atop the depth chart at the position when it was released Monday morning on Twitter.

Taylor McNamara is No. 2 on the depth chart behind Bell.

Other notes from the Sooners’ first depth-chart release:

-Frank Shannon is not listed despite being the Sooners’ leading tackler this season. Shannon is fighting the university on court over a one-year suspension stemming from a Title IX sexual assault investigation. Sophomore Jordan Evans and walk-on Caleb Gastellum are listed one-two at Shannon’s normal inside linebacker spot.

-Jordan Wade, who started eight games at nose guard last season, is listed fourth on the depth chart there. It’s no surprise that Jordan Phillips, who started the first four, is No. 1. He’s followed by Matt Romar and Torrea Peterson.

-Keith Ford and Alex Ross are listed as co-No. 1s at running back, followed by true freshman Samaje Perine.

-Ross is No. 1 at kick returner, followed by Durron Neal and freshman Michiah Quick.

-Senior Julian Wilson, who has primarily been a nickel back the last two seasons, is listed as the starter at left corner in front of Jordan Thoams and Marcus Green. There is no nickel listed.

-Ahmad Thomas tops the free safety spot, backed up by Hatari Byrd and Steven Parker, a true freshman. The pair are listed as “or” in backing up Thomas.

-Quentin Hayes tops the strong safety spot, backed up by Parker.

-Tyler Evanswho started 29 games in three seasons at right guard before being injured the last two seasons, is listed third at left guard. Adam Shead and Dionte Savage are the top two. On the right side, Nila Kasitati and Savage are the top two in front of Tony Feo.

-Aaron Ripkowski is listed as the No. 1 at fullback in front of true freshman Dimitri Flowers.

-Cortez Johnson, who started two games at corner last season, is nowhere to be found on the depth chart.
