Berry Tramel: It's OK to boo Blake Griffin

The former OCS and OU star is an Oklahoman through and through, but Wednesday night he was the enemy of the Thunder.

Before and after the game, Blake's a hero. We'll cheer him in pregame and buy him a steak at Mickey Mantle's postgame. But when the scoreboard's on, he's Johnny Damon.

When the scoreboard's on, nobody in Clipper red gets a break, even if they grew up in Warr Acres. Especially if they grew up in Warr Acres.

This guy's trying to take food off our playoff table. Blake had 35 points on 15-of-20 shooting, 11 rebounds, six assists and no turnovers. And OKC is supposed to hand him the key to the city?

And don't think boo-birds will alienate Blake from his hometown. Don't think boo-birds will keep Blake from considering ever playing in Boomtown. Players make franchise choices based on money, organization quality and opportunity to win.

Heck, I'd say Thunder fans took it easy on Blake. Ten years ago, when Pitino returned to Kentucky's Rupp Arena, only this time to coach the hated Louisvilles, some fan held up a sign: “Joann, we never liked you either,” referring to Pitino's wife.

Sounds good to me. Next season, when the Clippers come to town, how about a sign that says: “Taylor, we never liked you either.”
