ON COLLEGE BASKETBALL:
How far could you see Oklahoma State going in the tourney? I have them getting beat by Louisville in the Sweet 16.
Definitely OSU could go that far. Heck, OSU could beat Louisville. OSU could make the Final Four. OSU also could get beat today by Oregon. That's probably a 60-40 game OSU's way. This is a wide open field. OSU got a terrible draw in Oregon, which is much better than a 12-seed.
Oklahoma State fatigue: I asked last week about fatigue being a factor for OSU down the stretch. The Big 12 tourney seemed to echo my sentiments. I think John Helsley wrote about it after the KSU game. Will the legs be back for today's game?
I don't much buy it. Who's not tired? Why would OSU be any more tired than anyone else? Oregon played a bunch of tough games, went into the last week with a shot at the Pac-12 title. Then the Ducks played Thursday, Friday and Saturday to win the Pac-12 title. Why would OSU be more tired than the Ducks?
Chances OSU beats Louisville?
Probably 30-70. Louisville is an excellent team. But there's no dominant team in college hoops. Play well, and OSU would have a chance to win. OSU has better guards than does Louisville. That's always a good place to start.
Completely agree with your bad seed article today. My thoughts always have been if you beat the team with the better seed then you've got their seed going forward.
It's a great point. In a lot of years, you're better off being a 12 seed than an 8 or 9 seed, unless there's not a super team or teams in college basketball. And there's not this year, so maybe that's bad for Oregon. But the Ducks have a fighting chance to get to the Sweet 16.
Phil Forte: "on" today or not?
Who knows? But it's a key. If Forte is hitting, OSU is hard to beat. If Forte is off, the Cowboys can struggle to score.
A lot of people don't think Oklahoma can win tomorrow. I'm not in that camp. They've lost some squeakers and some stinkers, but I think they come through against SDSU. Your thoughts?
I would definitely favor San Diego State, but obviously the Sooners can win. It's probably about a 55-45 game. Which is a virtual tossup. It doesn't sound like a good matchup for the Sooners, but you never know. Neither team played well down the stretch.
Syracuse basketball apparently has been under investigation for "years" according to an article … any idea what they're looking into? I'd love to see the end of Boheim as a coach.
I'm no fan of Boeheim myself. Arrogant, seems to me.
Who do you have in your Final Four?
Let's see. Michigan State, Gonzaga, Kansas, Miami. I picked the Zags to go all the way, not because I believe in Gonzaga, but because a guy's allowed to dream.
Interesting blog post the other day about Big 12 basketball prowess (statistically). I asked a question in the comments afterward, wondering what year might have been best for all Oklahoma D1 teams collectively (OSU, OU, Tulsa, ORU) since the NCAA field expended to 64+ in '83. Your thoughts?
Hard to go against 2000. OSU and Tulsa made the Elite Eight. OU got beat in the round of 32.
Are you watching all of the games in San Jose or just the OSU games? Nothing better to me than sitting in all of the sessions of a tournament.
I plan to go watch Saint Louis-New Mexico State, but man, hard to break away from the TV. If that game's a dud, I'd rather be watching the good games on the tube.
Any word on what brand of basketballs are used at the arena in San Jose? I recall Markel Brown loving the brand used in Lubbock. Funny how details like that can make an impact (mentally).
