Berry Tramel: OU baseball has a great chance to upset LSU

Columnist Berry Tramel took questions from readers this afternoon, with subjects spanning from OU baseball to the NBA Finals to the ever-expanding Wes Lunt saga. Here's a transcript.

Berry Tramel 10:59 a.m. Hey, everybody. I'm up and running. So send in your questions and I'll get started.
John 10:59 a.m. Will the positive test result for Jonathan Gray be a distraction for the team Friday? Or will they rally around him? Do they win this series?
Berry Tramel 11:00 a.m. I like OU's chances. I even picked the Sooners. Sunny seems confident, and he's got two ace pitchers. Always a good place to start. I don't much believe in distractions. It won't distract the team. I guess it could distract Gray, but it also might make him concentrate harder.
Say 11:01 a.m. It appears the ACC has survived the expansion doom and gloom. The conference is setting up pretty good for the future in Football, Basketball (men and women), Baseball, and Lacrosse. When an ACC Network w/ESPN is secured would this put pressure on the Big 12 to expand and create a network?
Berry Tramel 11:02 a.m. No. The Big 12 is not going to create a network. First off, the ACC is not set up all that great for football. It's been a mediocre league, and I don't see how that changes. But regardless, no network for the Big 12. The Longhorn Network prevents it.
Matt 11:02 a.m. Kelly Olynk,Cody Zeller, or Steven Adams. Who do you see OKC taking? Who do you think is the best fit?
Berry Tramel 11:03 a.m. I like the big guy from Louisville. Dieng. I also hear about some 7-foot frenchman. Heck, there are a lot orf people like. Oladipo from Indiana. Drafting 12th is not so bad. I think there are good players throughout every draft. You just have to find one.
Brian 11:03 a.m. Why do you believe W. Lunt left OSU? Afraid of competition for the starting job? Even if he is a back-up, he still has a chance to play/start because of injury to other QBs.
Berry Tramel 11:04 a.m. I think he left because of relationships. Or lack thereof. I think Lunt lost his security blanket in Todd Monken and never really clicked with Mike Gundy.
Go Spurs!! 11:05 a.m. I saw you're picking the Heat. But do you think the Spurs have a shot? I'm pretty optimistic.
Berry Tramel 11:05 a.m. Oh sure, the Spurs have a shot. I think it will be good matchup. I just think Miami takes it.
brewzer 11:05 a.m. How does Rudolph's commit to OSU affect efforts to recruit another QB, in particular, Cornwell?
Berry Tramel 11:06 a.m. We were just talking about that. Cornwell is such a huge prospect, OSU probably would still take him. But it will be tough to recruit another QB. Generally, you don't get two QBs in the same class. Guys look elsewhere.
Guest 11:06 a.m. George Karl, get him as asst coach so he can teach Brooks how to run an offense.
Berry Tramel 11:07 a.m. Yep, that Thunder offense was terrible this season. Only finished second in the NBA. Horrible, horrible offense.
brewzer 11:07 a.m. NBA draft- Why doesn't the Thunder pick an athletic big man that may need a couple years in the D-league instead considering trades, etc. that will push the limits on compenssation?
Berry Tramel 11:08 a.m. I think that's possible. Or a European that you can stash. But heck, the Thunder might need a big man as early as a year from now, so if there's a guy they believe can play, I'd jump on him.
Rook 11:09 a.m. Why does baseball and the other pro sports allow athletes to fail drug test and still pay them/keep them on the roster? Why do they not do like the military and if you fail one then you are done! Make an example out of these people and hold them accountable and this will stop.
Berry Tramel 11:10 a.m. Because the baseball union is more powerful than a locomotive. The union runs baseball. Basketball doesn't want to punish its stars (not that they're doping, so far as any of us know). And football has a pretty decent drug policy.
ThunderFan 11:10 a.m. I liked your article about the Thunder needing to start trusting its younger players and giving them more playing time. I think we should have found more minutes for Lamb throughout this past season so he'd be more NBA ready to play a bigger role this next season. I'm excited about the draft. I wish there was more being written about it in the Oklahoman.
Berry Tramel 11:11 a.m. We're about to start a series on the draft. So you're in luck. As for Lamb, I agree. More minutes would have paid off, not necessarily this season but next season.
Sean Pickering 11:11 a.m. First the pay for play comments and now the restriction on transfer comments. Is it me, or does Bob Stoops seem to dislike student athletes?
Berry Tramel 11:12 a.m. It's just you. Stoops doesn't dislike student-athletes. He just has concrete opinions. I agree with him on the pay. But I disagree with him on the transfer stuff. He seemed to be in the mood to really defend coaches. Who are mostly indefensible.
ThunderFan 11:12 a.m. It really was a horrible offensive scheme. We only finished second in offense in the NBA because of our two superstars. Losing one of the two for the playoffs showed we need a better offensive system going forward because it's possible we lose one to injury sometime again next season.
Berry Tramel 11:14 a.m. Lose one of your superstars, and all the king' horses and all the king' men can't save you. Take Duncan or Parker off the Spurs, and they're not going anywhere. Take Hibbert or George off the Pacers, they're out in the first round. Take Conley or Gasol away from Memphis, the Griz are toast. Take CP3 or Blake off the Clips, they're done. Schemes don't have anything to do with it.
Guest 11:14 a.m. Who's your super bowl prediction (I know, I know, it's a little early for that)
Berry Tramel 11:14 a.m. Packers over Texans.
Jay 11:14 a.m. If the Spurs happen to win (big IF), do we see Tim Duncan retire and go out on top?
Berry Tramel 11:15 a.m. I don't think so. His body is in better shape than ever, so he could still keep going. Guys who can still play usually want to.
okcretro 11:15 a.m. will anyone from your paper ask Gundy a hard question about his transfer rules?
Berry Tramel 11:16 a.m. Yes.
Guest 11:17 a.m. I know hindsight is 20/20 but don't you think the failed Tyson Chandler Thunder trade really hurt OKC.
Berry Tramel 11:18 a.m. Oh, sure, but who knows if Chandler would have stayed? It probably would have kept him off Dallas for the 2011 title run, but the truth is, the Thunder wasn't ready to win a championship then, anyway. Too young. So it all worked out just fine. It would have made OKC better more quickly.
okcretro 11:18 a.m. If Ford doesnt get to the final four this year, how big of a dissapointment would it be?
Berry Tramel 11:19 a.m. Big disappointment. It's Final Four or bust, as far as I'm concerned. I mean that in a good way. It's sort of like Kansas. In non-Final Four season is a disappiointment for the Jayhawks. Same with OSU in this particular season.
Say 11:19 a.m. Do you have any update on the Big 12 and ACC scheduling alliance? Are there other scheduling alliances being negotiated? Why is this needed?
Berry Tramel 11:20 a.m. I think it's a farce. I think it was just a press release. A PR campaign. Something to say, hey, we're good friends. In football, schools are on their own for scheduling and don't like to be told what to do.
Daniel 11:20 a.m. Do you think playing well in a NBA game is a matter of life and death? I know Rohde thinks so, ( see Daniel Orton report card) but just wanted another respected columnists view on the importance of sports given the last couple of weeks we Okies have been through.
Berry Tramel 11:21 a.m. No. But I think it's fun to watch and talk about and cheer. I wouldn't want to live in a society without releases like sports. Sports have helped people get back to normalcy the last couple of weeks.
Say 11:21 a.m. What is your opinion or thoughts bout today's announcement that a judge in Pennsylvania has thrown out the Penn Gov lawsuit against the NCAA?
Berry Tramel 11:22 a.m. Posturing politics. Let's see. The NCAA slams the hammer on Penn State (without merit, I would say) and Penn State accepts the penalty. Then politicians say, too muich, let's sue. If you don't like how your leaders handled the situation, change your leaders. Don't sue. Total posturing.
okcretro 11:22 a.m. how much does osu get for their Tier 3 sports rights?
Berry Tramel 11:23 a.m. I don't know. Can't be much, because OSU hasn't done too much with it yet. But I heard yesterday that KSU made $2 million off its Tier 3 rights, all via internet. I don't know if that's gross or net. But it's impressive.
B 11:23 a.m. Planning on making the trip to Houston for OSU-MSU match up?
Berry Tramel 11:24 a.m. Yes sir. Or ma'am, depending on what B stands for. Wouldn't Miss State it. I'm fired up. I like the 2:30 p.m. kickoff, too. Won't be too hot, for August in Houston, since we'll be in doors.
Guest 11:24 a.m. Berry, were you surprised Coack Stoops chimed in and what do you think about his comments on the Lunt situation?
Berry Tramel 11:25 a.m. I was surprised he touched it. I'm the one who asked him about it. I think Stoops is off base. He seemed to indicate there was too much transferring in college football, but there's really not all that much. And I couldn't get him to tell me why we need the deterrent of the restrictions when athletes already have to sit out a year. That's the real deterrent.
okcretro 11:26 a.m. Castiglone's worst move? Hiring Capel or hiring Gene stephenson?
Berry Tramel 11:27 a.m. Oh, I think hiring Capel wasn't awful. It worked for awhile. Hiring Stephenson was a mistake, because it was obvious Stephenson's heart wasn't it. I remember coming back from the Stephenson press conference thinking, this guy seems like the kind of guy who might bolt. And sure enough, he did.
houstonian 11:27 a.m. Hi berry ever think about changing your style and look or maybe a different blazer color ?
Berry Tramel 11:29 a.m. My style of what? As far as the blazer, I wear all different kinds of blazers. Navy, black, brown, green, gold.
JG 11:29 a.m. Looking forward to a new article about Sam Hinkie (the brand new 76ers GM). I know you wrote about him a few years ago when he was a Rockets assistant. He's a fellow Marlow High grad.
Berry Tramel 11:29 a.m. Sam's a great guy. I got to chat with him down in Houston. I'm happy for him. I hope he does well with the Sixers and I'm sure we'll keep writing about him.
JenksSooner 11:29 a.m. Who wins the Big 12 Championship this year in football and why?
Berry Tramel 11:30 a.m. I think I'll pick OSU. At least now. Can't pick Texas. Not quite ready to pick TCU. The OU defense is suspect. I'll go with the cowboys.
Chuck 11:30 a.m. I'm surprised Stoops even answered! But thanks for asking him...
Berry Tramel 11:30 a.m. We all were surprised he answer.
Brian 11:30 a.m. How about this stat? Scott Brooks is now the 5th-longest tenured NBA coach. Hard to believe, I think.
Berry Tramel 11:31 a.m. That is something, isn't it? It's a tough job, head coach in the NBA.
Berry Tramel 11:31 a.m. OK, everybody. Good questions. Talk to you next week.
