Who, in your opinion, has the best chance of winning the Heisman?
Heck, I don't know. If there's anything that drives me crazy, it's Heisman talk in September.
OU's loss to K-State showed that OU isn't very good. Does that mean K-State isn't either? I think OU looked bad playing a team that they was more talented than. OU should be ok for the year and could contend for a conference championship. Your thoughts?
I didn't follow the question. First, OU isn't very good. But then you say OU should be OK and could contend. The truth is, the Big 12 has a lot of parity this year. Play well or you'll lose. The Sooners could indeed contend for the Big 12, but they've got to play better.
I meant to say if they play up to potential.
I don't know. I don't know how high OU's potential is. Is it higher than West Virginia's? Or Texas'? I don't know. We'll see. In some ways, the Big 12 is like an NFL schedule. Play well, probably win. Play poorly, probably lose. It's wide open.
Will LeBron and crew repeat?
I would pick yes. I think the Heat is the favorite.
Do you think some of why Sooner fans get so frustrated with Landry has to do with what a guy like Griffin III or Weeden has done in his final season? Those guys were at their most impressive in their finales. That adds to the pressure we put on Landry. The bar is set high in the Big 12.
No. I don't think Weeden and/or Griffin had anything to do with expectations on Landry. The quarterback at OU is always under intense pressure to produce, whether he's a sophomore or senior, whether he's in a QB-rich era or not.
How much better is Alabama than the rest of the pack?
Alabama's dominance is way overstated by people. It's much too early to know.
I am sure the Thunder isn’t going to pay Perkins the amount of money on his contract. So how does his contract situation go?
We'll see. Perk is signed through, what?, 2015? So he'll stay, unless the Thunder decides amnesty is the way to go. But amnesty is no great solution. You've got to pay a center something, so it's not a true savings of $8 million a year. A bad center will cost you $4 million a year. So you might be better off keeping Perk.
Will OU/Texas Tech be televised?
ABC or ESPN or ESPN2. 2:30 p.m.
Regarding the OSU game Saturday: Rain would … a.) Help OSU b.) Hurt OSU or c.) Make no difference
C. Makes no difference. The teams are similar in style now that Walsh is the QB. With Wes Lunt, there was a difference in style. Not now.
I keep hearing about OU's lack of talent this season. Your thoughts?
OU's talent has slipped. Of that there's no doubt. They don't have a load of great players. That's the biggest problem. The Sooners need to upgrade.
Have you had a chance to see Weeden play yet? If so, what do you think, so far?
No, I haven't seen the Browns. Looking forward to it tonight. He was awful in the opener but improved quite a bit since then. Baltimore will be tough.
Oklahoma State basketball is a mess. How does it get turned around? Does Holder just need to look in the couch cushions for cash and buy out Ford's contract?
Well, Ford is upgrading the talent big-time. Nash last year, Marcus Smart this year. But clearly, OSU needs to get better. If the Cowboys don't win this year, it's not good. I don't know if Holder can buy out Ford or not. That's a lot of money for a sport that fewer and fewer fans care about.
Best wishbone QB under Switzer?
Jack Mildren. If you don't count Switzer's offensive coordinator days, I'd take Jamelle Holieway, but I like Lott and Watts a ton, too, and Steve Davis was 32-1-1. But I'd stick with Mildren.
To be honest, I don't think the Lakers are the biggest threat the Thunder. But for the hell of it, let’s put in perspective. The West is so strong so when it’s playoff time, the Lakers will have two elite point guards to play and given their age, by the time they get to us, don't you think the age and tired legs will be a factor?
I think the Lakers have some serious questions. Concerning both age and cohesion. They've got some great players, but most are advanced in age. I like the Thunder over the Lakers.
Biggest upset this weekend in college football, if any?
I'm taking Baylor over West Virginia. Probably a flier. But perhaps the Mountaineers will be too jacked up in their Big 12 opener.
Who from your staff is going to the OSU/Texas game?
We've got a ton. Me, Chopper, Vinegar Bend, JG Whitfield, Scott Wright and AC Slater. (For you uninitiated on the nicknames, that's me, John Helsley, Gina Mizell, Jenni Carlson, Scott Wright and Anthony Slater).
Did you have a chance to talk to Switzer this past week regarding OU's play vs. K-State?
Best RB in the Big 12?
Too early. Joe Randle, Malcolm Brown, John Hulbert at KSU, Ganaway at Baylor. There are several.
Have been able to see Bell in practice much in regards to throwing the ball? If so, what do you think?
No. I'm not allowed at practice. He's look shaky in games, but that's limited opportunities.
What college QB is playing the best so far?
The guy at Oregon, Thomas, is good. And Geno Smith has been superb. Neither has been tested.
Is it too early in the season to say the Texas game is a must-win for OK State?
Must-win for what? To win the league? Probably. To have a decent year? No. To make everyone feel better? Yes.
You think Notre Dame has a good chance to beat OU in Norman?
Sure. Notre Dame is playing well, the OU home-field mystique is gone. The Sooners will have to play well.
What color scheme do you think The Thunder's alternate uniforms will be and what do you want them to be?
I would say the same colors. No new colors. But I would bet that sunset orange might be the base color. Or the yellow.
