The Oklahoman’s Berry Tramel took questions from readers in today’s Power Lunch Chat. Take a look at today’s Q&A and join our Power Lunch Chats Monday-Friday at 11 a.m. on

Berry Tramel 10:56 a.m. Hey, everybody. I'm up and running. So send in your questions and we'll get started soon.
Guest 11:00 a.m. Can Reggie Jackson be the next Harden if he improves his 3 pt shooting? He seems to have the same all around offensive game that Harden has, and has also been clutch, making a lot of clutch free throws and shots in the playoffs. Thoughts?
Berry Tramel 11:01 a.m. Well, he can't be Harden. Harden is a magician with the ball and around the basket. Jackson is not. Jackson is much more explosive, though. So they're different players. Jackson would be much improved if he did shoot a sharper 3-pointer.
Guest 11:01 a.m. Which Thunder players will play in summer league?
Berry Tramel 11:02 a.m. Well, all the usual suspects. Rookies, Lamb, maybe even Jackson a little. I can't remember if Liggins is playing or not. But a pretty good cast.
Guest 11:02 a.m. Will Scott Brooks actually trust Jeremy Lamb next season? Cuz the guy can score.
Berry Tramel 11:02 a.m. Nobody knows if Lamb can score. But it's time to find out. I think Brooks will give him the chance.
K. Gardner - Stillwater 11:02 a.m. Why did HCTF give Mostella a release, apparently with no restrictions? Does this make Gundy look worse? Personally, though, I am not that unhappy with the way this turned out.
Berry Tramel 11:02 a.m. I don't know what HCTF means. I don't talk in code.
calvary fan 11:02 a.m. wondering your thoughts on the difference between Spurs and thunder? Here are mine... I think POP has job security so he doesnt care about W?L during regular season. So he plays all of his bench guys through out the season getting them valuable minutes and confidence.. Brooks doesnt have the job security so he has to play his starts and try and get the most wins for his next job so he can say look i was 400-200 not 350-250. thoughts?
Berry Tramel 11:04 a.m. I don't think that's it at all. Nobody has job security based on regular season. If you go 60-22 and get beat in the first round of the playoffs, you're much more likely to be fired than if you go 41-41 and reach the conference finals. Popovich just has more of a bent of playing younger players. I think Brooks will get more like that.
frank 11:04 a.m. Was the harden move a bust and when will people get off the sam bandwagon and realize that he lost two side kicks that made many decisions for him. I think the adams wasn't a reach
Berry Tramel 11:05 a.m. No, the Harden move wasn't a bust. The Thunder didn't trade Harden's career. The Thunder traded one year of Harden. So the Thunder traded one year of Harden for one year of Martin, plus 4-5 years of Jeremy Lamb and 4-5 years of Steven Adams. So we'll see how it turns out, but the odds are heavy that OKC comes out ahead.
Edward 11:05 a.m. Berry, any thoughts on Tuesday's announcement of Prodigal bringing a USL PRO franchise to OKC in 2014?
Berry Tramel 11:06 a.m. Confusing. I have a grip on it, but to people who haven't investigated, it's total confusion. One big mess. Very unfortunate, because frankly, both endeavors sound good.
Guest 11:06 a.m. What are your thoughts on the NASL vs USL soccer coming to OKC?
Berry Tramel 11:08 a.m. Like I said, both leagues sound fine. It's really AAA vs. an independent league that wants to go major league. Pacific Coast League vs. USFL. Except for soccere. So who knows about any of it. Just one big mess.
Thunderfan 11:08 a.m. Does Steven Adams have the mentality to be a back to the basketball scoring option? Also, will Ibaka ever realize that he should go hard to the hole instead of scoring in a finesse way?
Berry Tramel 11:09 a.m. Back-to-the-basket is not a mentality. It's a skill. I don't think Adams will be a big-time scorer. I think he's a defender. Ibaka will be fine. He needs to get more aggressive on the offensive boards. That's my chief complaint.
Ignatious 11:11 a.m. Hi Berry, Coulnd't KD get a girlfriend closer to home as in Tulsa [Shock] as opposed to the Lynx in Minnesota? Long distance relationships rarely pan out if you ask me.
Berry Tramel 11:12 a.m. Maybe he wanted to cheer for a winner every once in awhile. The Shock is one of the most destitute franchises in the history of sport. Can't win a thing.
Guest 11:12 a.m. Can Jackson be as effective as Martin in the 6th man role?
Berry Tramel 11:13 a.m. It's going to be different, because Jackson will spend part of his time as the backup point guard. So he won't be doing the same things. Not nearly as many 3-point shots. Not a lot of coming off screens. Sometimes, JAckson will play the point with Westbrook on the wing, and sometimes Westbrook will be at the point with Jackson on the wing. But I love Jackson as a person. Top shelf individual. You've got to like that.
soccer fan 11:13 a.m. What is going on with soccer?
Berry Tramel 11:13 a.m. It's just absurd. No pro soccer for 20 years, now we've got two fledling franchises. I guess they'll both try to make a go of it.
anon 11:13 a.m. HCTF=head coach travis ford
john 11:15 a.m. Seems our next season hopes rest on Lamb. Also, do you think KD and Russ have room to improve? If so, how much? thats another x factor.
Berry Tramel 11:15 a.m. Oh, OK. Travis Ford. One might have said so in the first place. But I don't claim to know what's going on with Mostella. It does make Gundy look bad, because he was in the wrong. He's got no place to go other than looking bad.
Berry Tramel 11:16 a.m. Sorry, got that out of order. Lamb does have a lot to do with how much OKC can get done next season. But I would say Durant and Westbrook both have room to improve and almost certainly will. NBA players typically peak at age 27, 28. Westbrook and Durant both will be 25 next season. They are primed to get even better. Durant can get stronger. Westbrook can get wiser. Both can improve their post games. Both can improve defensively. Lots of improvement room there.
fred 11:16 a.m. Can you backload a nba contract? Say give a player the league minimum for 2 years until perkins deal expires and then pay him well the third year?
Berry Tramel 11:17 a.m. No. There are restrictions on how much of a pay raise can be given from year to year. I forget exactly what the parameters are, but the NBA has a set formula.
Casey 11:17 a.m. Based upon moves you think will happen the rest of the offseason, how to you rank the Western Conference going into next season?
Berry Tramel 11:18 a.m. Well, if Howard goes to Houston, the Rockets move up. Let's put Dwight in Houston. I'd rank them: 1. OKC; 2. Spurs; 3. Clippers; 4. Memphis; 5. Houston; 6. Denver; 7. Golden State; 8. Minnesota, I suppose.
Alex 11:18 a.m. Got any projected records for OU/OSU this upcoming season?
Berry Tramel 11:18 a.m. I'll say OSU 10-2, OU 9-3. Throwing in bowls, I'll say both 10-3. Make it easy.
calvary fan 11:18 a.m. do u still think Presti should get a free pass? seems like some of his picks havent come to fruition recently
Berry Tramel 11:19 a.m. What do you mean free pass? And are you under the assumption that every draft pick should pan out? Do they pan out for anybody that way? How is a draft pick supposed to make a big dent on a roster like the Thunder's, which has had the same starting five now three straight years? Presti's draft record is among the league's best.
Patrick 11:20 a.m. Not questioning Gundy or Monken's decision to start Lunt in 2012, but if they had gone the more typical route for a college QB and redshirted him last year, do you think he would still be in Stillwater right now? The whole dynamic would be different. He wouldn't have had a taste of starting, Chelf and/or Walsh would have had a more full season to prove themselves or not, Lunt would have had much more time to adjust, etc.
Berry Tramel 11:21 a.m. Excellent point. He might still have transferred, but maybe not. It's a great point. Of course, if the job had gone to Walsh, then it's much more likely that Lunt transfers, because Walsh is only one year ahead of Lunt. Chelf would have just one year left.
Concerned About Our Country 11:21 a.m. What are your thoughts of the government trying to get the NBA to promote obamacare? If they do, I will never watch another minute of an NBA game, even the Thunder.
Berry Tramel 11:21 a.m. Hadn't heard that. I would say good luck with trying to get the THunder to do that.
Isaiah (Denver, CO) 11:21 a.m. Given the recent trend of the OU football program, what one thing do they need to truly compete for a national title? Is it simply talent or do you foresee more coaching changes happening to seriously be elite and competitive?
Berry Tramel 11:22 a.m. Better players is a good place to start. OU's defensive line could use an upgrade, and its linebackers weren't very good last season. I don't think it's coaching, necessarily. OU's coaches were replaced for recruiting purposes.
Guest 11:22 a.m. Was Bill Simmons as annoying to you as he was to me on Draft Night? We get it Bill you didn't like the Harden trade.
Berry Tramel 11:23 a.m. Yes. It's one thing to not like the trade. But to act like the Thunder had Harden for years to come, that's just wrong. The Thunder offered Harden more than the franchise could afford -- $53 million over four years. And he turned it down. So a trade was the wise move. I don't know why SImmons doesn't understand that.
calvary fan 11:23 a.m. When Tulsa gets the olympics in 2024. will they give OKC some events?
Berry Tramel 11:23 a.m. I hope so. Maybe we can get the elephant flying competition.
Jerry 11:24 a.m. If Durant and Westbrook score their ave. together 45-50 ppg. where will the other 50 ppg come from, if Ibaka only scores 8-10 ppg and Thabo (a defender called a shooting guard) gets 6 ppg.? Jackson 8 ppg. Lamb 8 ppg.? I cannot see how they can score unless they find a new offensive player.
Berry Tramel 11:25 a.m. Why would Ibaka score 8-10? He averaged 13.something last season. He might score more next season. I can see Jackson getting into double digits, too. A key could be a veteran free agent pickup, Derek fisher or Dorell Wright, someone like that. They could average 6-7 points a game, too.
Guest 11:25 a.m. Got a favorite to with the Tour de France this year? I'm cheering for Chavanel!
Berry Tramel 11:25 a.m. Greg Lemond in the race?
Guest 11:25 a.m. I keep hearing about "going to the MLS"...MLS franchise is 80 million and they only play in soccer specific stadiums with 20+ seats, another 100 million. Any thoughts?
Berry Tramel 11:28 a.m. The franchise fee for Montreal in 2012 was $40 million. For New York in 2015, it's $100 million. I don't know if they skyrocketed, or that was some kind of New York market thing. But clearly, it is a point someone will have to address. You want an MLS team, you need to have someone with major capital. No doubt. As for the stadium, that's doable. There long have been plans -- Bricktown, the river, somewhere close to downtown -- for a soccer stadium that also could house high school football, small-college football, etc.
James 11:28 a.m. If new OU baseball coach Pete Hughes can develop even just a mildly pleasant relationship with coach Larry Turner at Owasso, couldn't that be huge for the OU program? Sunny and Turner hated each other, and I think a few other HS coaches felt the same.
Berry Tramel 11:28 a.m. I don't know anything about Turner and Golloway, but clearly, a good relationship with high school coaches is a good thing. Especially the successful coaches.
Guest 11:28 a.m. Will anybody ever bring back basketball as Billy Tubbs coached it? You know, get up as many shots as possible as quickly as possible and try to outscore the other team!
Berry Tramel 11:30 a.m. Sure. Someone will. But it's far away on the college level. No one wants to play that way, at least not on the big level. But it will recycle back. Always does. You're seeing more uptempo on the NBA level.
Patrick 11:30 a.m. OSU men's b-ball was going to be one over the scholarship limit. Somebody had to go. Seems like it might have been a mutual decision between Ford and Mostella.
Berry Tramel 11:31 a.m. Quite possibly true. It's unfortunate. If the kid was OK with it, then everybody's happy. If the kid was disappointed, then that's dirty pool. Don't sign someone if you're not prepared to bring them in.
Guest 11:31 a.m. Dial up Lamb's 2012-13 highlights with the Thunder and Tulsa on youtube. It is a 12 minute video, dude can score.
Berry Tramel 11:32 a.m. Maybe so. I don't really care about D-League highlights. As for the Thunder, when I saw Lamb play, I wasn't overly impressed. But I'm willing to be convinced.
Steve 11:32 a.m. Do you believe OU basketball will be able to reach the NCAA again this year?
Berry Tramel 11:34 a.m. It won't be easy. With both Osby and M'Baye gone, the Sooners will be vulnerable inside. OU will be good outside, and that's always a good way to start. But inside, I don't know.
Guest 11:34 a.m. Will OKC still have 1st seed in West next year even though they lost Martin?
Berry Tramel 11:34 a.m. I guess yes. I think the Thunder will win 60 games again.
Guest 11:34 a.m. Thoughts about the Thunder possibly trying to go for Greg Oden? Low risk contract, need for a big man, previous #1 draft pick... do you think it's worth a gamble?
Berry Tramel 11:35 a.m. Oh, typically, yes. But the Thunder is overloaded at center. So I don't see the point. The Thunder is going down this road with Thabeet. You can't have to two similar projects at center.
Tim 11:35 a.m. Appreciate your objectivity and insight, Berry. Curious- does the Thunder think that it has enough to win next year? Seems like they are relying on a lot of unproven players outside of Russ, Kevin , and Serge.
Berry Tramel 11:36 a.m. I would disagree. Collison is not unproven. Neither is Perk. Neither is Thabo. In fact, those are about as reliable of guys as you can find. You know exactly what you're getting. Now, with Lamb and a little bit of Jackson, yes. But the Thunder is among the more established rosters in the NBA.
Guest 11:36 a.m. The Harden trade was instant gratification for the Rox, but it is going to be a slow burn for the Thunder. The instant gratification people can't seem to wrap their minds around the fact that they need to be patient with the assets the Thunder received to see if this trade pans out. The other "worst trade in the history of the NBA" actually worked out well for both teams, thought it took Memphis being patient with Marc Gasol
Berry Tramel 11:37 a.m. And really turned out great for Memphis. It's a great point. You're right. The Thunder did not make that deal to win the press conference.
frank 11:37 a.m. I think that Presti shouldn't have any issue bringing in free agents that want to win. But why don't we his selling point should be KD, Russ and Ibaka, take less and we will win. I don't want any end of the bench guys and want a person like ray allen or battier
Berry Tramel 11:38 a.m. You can't restructure contracts. Take less will have to wait until their contracts are up. And take less might work. In some ways, Westbrook did take less, for that very reason. He could have had a bigger contract.
Guest 11:38 a.m. Yes that is accurate about the MLS. But that is the plan for the future Oklahoma City. We can be MLS city in the near future.
Berry Tramel 11:38 a.m. Near future? I wouldn't say that. I'd say we're 6-7 years away at best. If one of those franchises goes great funs, and we come up with a stadium plan, sure, the MLS could land here about 2020. But not before then.
Guest 11:39 a.m. Do you think the Tulsa Shock would have more success if it moved to Oklahoma City and was marketed with the Thunder? Other WNBA teams seem to have benefited from having brother leagues.
Berry Tramel 11:39 a.m. I don't think it's possible it could have less success. But marketing is not the Shock's problem. The product is the problem. Women's basketball needs to be exciting, and the Shock is flat-out awful. The Shock is so bad, it hasn't given Tulsa a fighting chance to support it.
Berry Tramel 11:40 a.m. I think the Big 12 fine compared to the other conferences, except in title games with the SEC. The 10 doesn't bother me. I wanted Louisville, and I think it was a mistake not to get the 'Ville, but I don't see any reason to jump to 12 just for the number.
Alex 11:40 a.m. Last I heard, our AAA agreement with Houston is up after this season and they might prefer a Texas location for their AAA team. AAA baseball in OKC in any danger?
Berry Tramel 11:41 a.m. I have no idea. I assume not. The ballpark is too good and the stability too strong. If anything, OKC could drop to the Texas League and have a AA franchise, which would be no problem. San Antonio has a AA team. Some baseball people argue AA is better. More people on their way up instead of on their way down.
Guest 11:42 a.m. What about OU baseball assistant Thomas ? Is he gone due to the hiring of another assitant?
Berry Tramel 11:42 a.m. Sounds that way. I think Giese, the pitching coach, had a good chance of staying. At least that's what I heard. But Mike Anderson's hiring would seem to move Aric Thomas out of the picture.
John Y 11:42 a.m. I am starting to wonder if the Thunder are losing ground now. It seems that everyone around them are aggressively signing free agents to bolster their teams for the now while we seem to be content with hoping for the future. What do we really need to do to win a championship?
Berry Tramel 11:44 a.m. Not get hurt. That would be a start. Everyone is aggressively signing free agents? The Clips signed Redick but lost Bledsoe. The Grizzlies didn't sign anyone except their own guys. Here's the deal on OKC. The Thunder signed their core guys. Everything else is just filler. Few rosters were as set as OKC. So the Thunder doesn't make a big splash in free agency.
soccer fan 11:44 a.m. I heard that Taft hasn't actually granted a lease agreement with anyone for soccer. What is the real deal there?
Berry Tramel 11:45 a.m. The school board voted to give the NASL the lease. The sticking point is that the NASL hasn't formally approved the OKC franchise yet. That's expected to be a formality. If there are further developments, I don't know about them.
calvary fan 11:45 a.m. will gundy be getting a raise if he loses 5 games again this year? i mean the heart of dallas bowl was great accomplishment for osu!
Berry Tramel 11:46 a.m. Well, Heart of Dallas Bowl wasn't OSU's fault. That was unfortunate musical chairs in the Big 12 bowl structure. I thought 8-5 was a good year considering OSU lost two quarterbacks and went with a third-teamer down the stretch. Another raise for Gundy? Probably. Isn't that what happens with football coaches.
Guest 11:46 a.m. You also "weren't overly impressed" with Reggie at the beginning of last year.
Berry Tramel 11:46 a.m. That's a good point. I hope Lamb is a stud. We'll see.
John Y 11:46 a.m. How many more years can the Heat keep the big 3 together? Is this going to be a trend that we now see in the NBA where players take less money to join together to win a ring?
Berry Tramel 11:46 a.m. Probably will be a trend, though Miami's Big three are getting big bucks. LeBron can opt out next summer. We'll see if he does.
Guest 11:46 a.m. Can thunder amnisty perkins and trade for New Orleans Lopez? I heard he is on the trading block.
Berry Tramel 11:47 a.m. Oh, they could. But it would end up costing them more money for a worse player. So while it would make all kinds of fans happy, it's not going to happen.
Guest 11:47 a.m. I hear the Baron's are in real trouble..bad attendance, etc.
Berry Tramel 11:47 a.m. Don't know. Depends on what Edmonton wants. If the Oilers are happy with the arrangement, then the Barons are probably safe for awhile.
Oliver 11:48 a.m. Who will draw larger fan base in 2015 - USL or NASL?
Berry Tramel 11:48 a.m. Oh, heck. I have no idea. The NASL appears to have the better venue, but the USL gets a year head start, which is good for them.
Richard 11:48 a.m. Who do you think will be the next Thunder assistant? Any chance of getting Ron Adams?
Berry Tramel 11:49 a.m. I hope so. I think Adams is a great defensive mind and did wonders for the Thunder. I would fully support the return of Adams, who inexplicably was fired in Chicago.
Oliver 11:49 a.m. Are the New York Cosmos really in the NASL? I thought they were going to MLS?
Berry Tramel 11:49 a.m. New York added a team in the MLS, but it's the NASL that has the Cosmos brand. If you're asking me to explain it further, I'm afraid I can't.
Guest 11:49 a.m. That's true. Taft has not signed a lease with any partner. Potential lawsuit could be damaging.
Berry Tramel 11:50 a.m. The lawsuit does muddle up everything. So who knows what will happen.
John 11:50 a.m. Is there now worries in Westbrook knee? We thought Manor was going to be fine but he turned out to be a shell of himself this season.
Berry Tramel 11:50 a.m. Different injuries. ACL vs. meniscus. I think Westbrook will be fine.
soccer fan 11:50 a.m. You sure about your info on the lease for Taft? I thought they had granted them right for NASL to negotiate a lease- not granted them a lease.
Berry Tramel 11:51 a.m. That's what I meant. The NASL hasn't even approved OKC yet. That comes July 25. You can't sign a lease with a team that doesn't exist.
Patrick 11:51 a.m. Nothing against the sport or the folks that enjoy it, but are you a little suprised at how much interest there seems to be in soccer?
Berry Tramel 11:51 a.m. No. It's a popular sport with a lot of dedicated fans. And it's been dormant in OKC for so long. Lots of penned-up enthusiasm ready to explode.
John Y 11:51 a.m. Are we arriving now at a time where the conferences are mattering more than ever in football? Use to you went to a place based on the rep of the school. Now the rep of the league is important as well. SEC has won the title for the last decade it would seem or a Pac10 team. Big10, not so much, ACC - yeah right, Big12 not recently. Don't you think we have to take a serious look at some other schools? The problem though is who do you get 'cause all the other good ones are have been snatched up. Thus, how much trouble are we really in here?
Berry Tramel 11:52 a.m. Good point about the recruiting. I think the reputation of the SEC does change recruiting. But that doesn't the other leagues, notably the Big 12, has to look at other schools. Everyone of status is tied up. So no reason to bring in a Cincinnati and Connecticut, just to get to 12.
guest 11:52 a.m. NASL owner Tim McLaughlin is among the top donors to the OKC School District. He will get a lease at Taft.
Berry Tramel 11:53 a.m. You're right. McLaughlin's ties to OKC are what fostered the vote two weeks ago. But it's already been decided. If the NASL comes to town, it has Taft.
Berry Tramel 11:53 a.m. OK, everybody. Great questions. Talk to you next week.
