On new OU basketball coach Lon Kruger's recruiting ability:
I don't think Kruger is a whiz-bang recruiter. But so long as he hires a good recruiter or two, he'll be fine. I don't think being a great recruiter is mandatory for head coaching success.
On whether OSU baseball coach Frank Anderson is on the hot seat:
I think Frank Anderson most definitely feels the heat. Two straight years missing the Big 12 Tournament? I'm not holding him to some kind of standard of winning the league or anything. But finishing ninth or worse two years running? That won't do in Stillwater.
On whether the Sooners should have hired Billy Gillespie:
I don't think he was worth the risk. In a state where alcohol and/or addiction took down two straight OSU basketball coaches, I don't see how OU could take a chance on a guy with similar tendencies. One thing that really concerned me about the Gillisipie story written by Yahoo's Jason King was this: John Lucas saying Gillispie was not an alcoholic, he was just a guy who had some problems with alcohol. Gillisipie went through Lucas' program. That seemed like a red flag. I think OU did the right thing.
