The Bike to Work Day will begin at 8 a.m. Friday.

The ride will begin in a parking lot on S Baumann Avenue near E Main Street on the UCO campus.

The one-mile ride will end at Festival Market Place, 26 W First St., where a free Othello's breakfast and free coffee from Java Dave's will be served.

There also will be booths set up where Farmers Market vendors will give away free produce to the riders. Door prizes also will be given away to participants.

The event is organized by the city of Edmond and the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments.

Some members of the Edmond City Council are expected to participate in the ride. Organizers expect 100 bicyclists to attend the event, said Tim Tillman, chairman of the Edmond Bicycle Committee.

Bike to Work Day is part of a national campaign to promote bicycling as an efficient and healthy transportation alternative, according to the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments' Web site.
