Nearing the end of the regular season, the field for the NCAA Tournament is starting to take shape.
A look at how the Big 12 teams stand in the RPI, and in projections:
TCU – RPI: No. 10. The Horned Frogs are in play for a national seed, with pitching to make a deep postseason run. Verdict: In; solid to host, perhaps a Super, too.
Oklahoma State – RPI: 27. OSU keeps strengthening its resume, with balanced hitting and pitching. Verdict: In, likely to host.
Texas – RPI: No. 13. A rugged schedule aids the Longhorns, even though they’re slumping of late. Verdict: In, longshot to host.
Texas Tech – RPI: No. 16. The RPI bodes well for the Red Raiders, who are hovering around .500 in conference play. Verdict: In.
West Virginia – RPI: No. 24. A series win over Texas last weekend confirmed the Mountaineers as a deserving team. Verdict: In.
Kansas – RPI: No. 36. Sweep of Tech raised the profile, yet work to be done. Close with WVU and Michigan. Verdict: In, but on the bubble.
Baylor – RPI: No. 94. Since winning opening series against OSU, haven’t done much in disappointing run. Verdict: Out.
Oklahoma – RPI: No. 110. A promising start to the season didn’t hold up, with the Sooners sinking in league play. Verdict: Out.
Kansas State – RPI: No. 96. The defending – and projected – champ has fallen on hard times, with little reason. Verdict: Out.
