Oklahoma State’s Brendan McCurry is one of three Big 12 closers on the midseason watch list for the 10th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award.

McCurry, a senior from Tupelo, is 5-0 with a 0.29 ERA and 11 saves in 23 appearances this season. His save total is fifth-best in the NCAA.

McCurry has given up just 20 hits while striking out 34. He’s already set both the single-season and career saves record for the Cowboys.

He’s joined on the list by Baylor’s Josh Michalec and TCU’s Riley Ferrell.

Michalec leads the Big 12 with 15 saves, six shy of tying the league’s single-season record. He’s 15 of 16 in save chances.

Ferrell had saves in each of TCU’s three wins at Texas last week and has nine on the season.

In his last six appearances, he’s allowed just four base runners total and has 14 strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings over that span.

The winner of the award will be announced during the College World Series.

Four Big 12 closers — three from Texas — have won the award in the nine years it has been presented. Texas’ J. Brent Cox won the inaugural award in 2005, with Kansas’ Don Czyz winning in 2006, Texas’ Chance Ruffin in 2010 and Corey Knebel in 2011.

TEXAS SERIES BIG FOR OSU TITLE HOPES

After winning seven consecutive Big 12 games, Oklahoma State is in position to win its first regular-season conference title since the Big 12 formed in 1997.

The Cowboys are a game ahead of TCU entering this weekend’s series at Texas.

The Cowboys have done it on both sides — leading the Big 12 in both batting average and ERA in conference games.
