MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Sooners ended the regular season with a win Sunday, defeating Kansas State 7-3 at Tointon Family Stadium to snap a three-game losing streak.
The Sooners earned the No. 4 seed for the Big 12 Championship and will face No. 5 seed Baylor at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the opener at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. OU and Baylor are the only Big 12 teams to make every Big 12 Championship field. The Sooners beat the Bears twice in last year's event, with Oklahoma winning both games.
Freshmen Kolbey Carpenter had two hits and three RBIs for OU (36-19, 13-11 Big 12), including a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Jake Fisher (2-2) got the win for Oklahoma, striking out seven and allowing nine hits in seven innings.
Jake Doller (2-3) took the loss for Kansas State, giving up three earned runs and walking two in 1 1/3 innings.
Cowboys earn No. 2 seed
Oklahoma State is the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 Championship and will open play against No. 7 TCU at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Cowboys, who have won 15 of their last 19 games, are the second seed for the fourth time overall and first time since 2008.
Big 12 Championship quick facts
* The Big 12 Championship is played under a two-division, double-elimination format. The eight teams with the best league records (based on winning percentage) qualify and are divided into two divisions. Seeds 1, 4, 5 and 8 go into Division 1. Seeds 2, 3, 6 and 7 are in Division 2. There is no cross-division play until Sunday's championship game.
* The entire tournament will be national televised for the first time. Fox Sports Networks will televise the championship final. All games leading up to the final will air on Fox College Sports.
