Big 12 baseball: Sooner coach Pete Hughes sees 'better days ahead'

The Sooners finished 29-29, and coach Pete Hughes is ready to get on the recruiting trail.

Oklahoma's season ended after a wild 11-8 loss to Oklahoma State on Friday. Pete Hughes’ first season as coach left some to be desired after the Sooners finished 29-29, but after Friday’s game, Hughes made clear he expects to build on this season and revive OU baseball.

Q: Thoughts on the loss to Oklahoma State?

A: “A tremendous college baseball game. Two tough programs, two programs that battled, and that was a great game going back and forth. That’s what college baseball is all about. There were a lot of ups and downs, and in the end, I think the team that played better defense and got a bigger hit won. That is what usually happens in hard-fought battles.

“I’m really proud of our guys; they showed some resiliency and they were some guys that could have packed up a long time ago, but they show up and play every day and they play well when they are behind. It was just a lot of fun to be around here the last couple of days.”

(Starting pitcher) Adam Choplick had a weird line — six walks, eight strikeouts; was that indicative of his season?
