Big 12 baseball: Sooner coach Pete Hughes sees 'better days ahead'

The Sooners finished 29-29, and coach Pete Hughes is ready to get on the recruiting trail.

I thought he was up and down. It’s consistency. I think that what we’re all aiming for in this game. The team that plays the most consistent in whatever phase of it usually wins. They proved that holds true on the mound, but this is a kid who came a long way from last year. We have to keep working him, keep getting him consistent and keep building his confidence. He certainly can be a dominant arm, it’s just a matter of being a little more consistent in the zone.

How do you feel about your first year at OU and things going forward?

“I love being a part of the University of Oklahoma. Better days are ahead, I promise you that. It’s a great product to recruit to and we will recruit tirelessly. We’ll start tomorrow. I’m real proud to be a representative of a great university and strong, strong, strong baseball tradition.”
