Kansas star freshman Joel Embiid could miss games to rest his injured knee and back.
How does that change things for OU and OSU? Well, there's no guarantee that Embiid will be out when the Jayhawks play OU on Feb. 24 or OSU on Mar. 1. But even if Embiid plays in those games, you’d expect him to be a little ginger after sitting for a few games.
On the other hand, Embiid is a physical freak, projected as the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. So he could pop back up, rested and ready to go, and be a menace against the Sooners and Cowboys.
The Sooners did a good job on him the first time around in a 90-83 loss, holding Embiid to six points and six rebounds in 19 minutes, but the 7-footer terrorized OSU for 13 points, 11 boards and eight blocks in the Jayhawks' 80-78 win in Lawrence.
The Kansas City Star reports that Embiid was bothered by a sprained knee and a back injury over the last few weeks. KU coach Bill Self said he doesn't know how long Embiid will be out if he does miss time.
Kansas is coming off an 85-82 upset loss to Kansas State on Monday, but the Jayhawks are still a game ahead of Texas in the Big 12 standings.
Embiid's possible loss could be OU's gain, as the Sooners are third in the Big 12 at 7-4. Texas is 7-3 and Kansas is 9-2.
