Kansas and Kansas State are the top-two favorites for the Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship.

One of the two teams that won the regular season conference crown could easily hold a new title at weekend's end.

But so could a handful of other team's in the league. And with the way this conference season has gone, Big 12 coaches said Monday in their weekly conference call that upsets and a surprise champion wouldn't be out of the question.

“You can't go a week without seeing scores that you're like, ‘Boy, that's unbelievable' and ‘How'd that happen?''” Baylor coach Scott Drew said. “Before long, you realize that's just normal nowadays.”

Drew's Baylor Bears produced one of those scores this weekend — an 81-58 victory against Kansas.

“It's not predictable at all,” Kansas coach Bill Self said of the upcoming postseason tournament. “There are teams that are fighting to get into the (NCAA) tournament … It's as open a (Big 12) tournament as we've had, at least since I've been at KU.”

RICK BARNES SOUNDS OFF

Texas coach Rick Barnes was asked about one-and-dones, things that are OK and things in the league that need fixed.

Barnes says he's a firm believer in “if you're not getting better, you're getting worse.” Barnes said he'd like to see the game more uniformed in officiating across the nation.
