Big 12 football: 3 Cowboys, 2 Sooners on preseason All-Big 12 team

Three Oklahoma State players and two Oklahoma players were named to the preseason All-Big 12 team announced Wednesday by the conference and voted on by media members who cover the league.

OSU is represented by receiver Josh Stewart, defensive tackle Calvin Barnett and linebacker Shaun Lewis, while OU center Gabe Ikard and cornerback Aaron Colvin were both honored.

Stewart had a breakout season in 2012, earning All-Big 12 honors after tallying 101 catches for 1,120 yards and seven touchdowns. Barnett was the Big 12{prime}s Defensive Newcomer of the Year in 2012 after recording 30 tackles (8.5 for loss), one sack, four quarterback hurries and one pass breakup in his first season as a Cowboy after transferring from Navarro Junior College. Lewis tallied 58 tackles (7.5 for loss), 2.5 sacks, four pass breakups, four quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery last season and was a second-team All-Big 12 selection.

Ikard was an All-Big 12 selection last season and is on the 2013 watch list for the Rimington Award given to the nation's best center. Colvin, also an All-Big 12 pick in 2012, tallied 39 tackles and four interceptions for the Sooners last season after switching to cornerback from strong safety.

Baylor running back Lache Seastrunk was named the preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. TCU defensive end Devonte Fields, the conference's reigning Defensive Player of the Year, was tabbed to win that honor again in 2013. West Virginia running back Charles Sims, a post-graduate transfer from Houston, took the preseason Newcomer of the Year honor.
