Big 12 football: Baylor has chance to ruin K-State's season, exact a little revenge

In 2011, Kansas State derailed Robert Griffin III's Heisman Trophy campaign. And Baylor's national title hopes, ever how premature they might have been.

Now Baylor can return the favor.

As you know, RG3 got back on the Heisman horse after his 36-35 loss at K-State a year ago.

There isn't likely to be such a reprieve for KSU's Collin Klein, whose No. 1-ranked team is two wins away from the Big Bowl. One of those hurdles comes Saturday in Waco.

“They certainly haven't snuck up on anybody,” said Baylor coach Art Briles. “Everybody knew they were going to be really talented this year after the great year they had last year. They've lived up to all of the hype.”

KSU and Baylor were close a year ago. A one-point home win for the Wildcats was the difference in KSU finishing 7-2 in the Big 12 and Baylor finishing 6-3. Both were 10-3 overall.

But while Griffin went on to NFL fame, Klein returned for his senior year with the ‘Cats. Now KSU is 20-3 over two seasons.

“They've had an outstanding couple of years,” Briles said. “They've had an outstanding couple of years. They are an excellent football team and that's why they're rated where they're rated.”

Kansas State has won nine straight games against teams from the state of Texas. The Wildcats need that streak to reach 11, since they close at home against Texas.

The last Texas team to beat KSU? Baylor, 47-42 on Oct. 23, 2010, in Waco.

Griffin threw for 404 yards and four touchdowns that day. K-State was quarterbacked by Chase Coffman. Two weeks later, Bill Snyder gave the job to Collin Klein.
