Big 12 football: Call it an upset if Kansas beats Rice

by Berry Tramel Published: September 13, 2013

Rice rallied for a 25-24 victory over Kansas last September, shouting to all that Charlie Weis would be no quick fix as the KU coach.

The Jayhawks went 1-11 under Weis, beating only South Dakota State. KU is 3-25 in its last 28 games, with the victories over Northern Illinois and two teams from South Dakota.

Now Kansas makes the return trip to Rice, and the Owls are no pushover. They won their last six games of 2012 and played Texas A&M reasonably tough before losing 52-31 in their season opener.

KU has lost 22 straight road games. Hasn't won since 2009 at Texas-El Paso, when Todd Reesing quarterbacked the Jayhawks.

Rice is a 6 1/2-point favorite. But if Weis is to ignite the Kansas program, it has to start somewhere. Let's go with the Jayhawks in the upset.
