Texas Tech was not a good football team the second half of the 2012 season. The Red Raiders were 6-1 after a triple-overtime victory at TCU but stumbled to a 7-5 finish.

Tech was routed by Kansas State and OSU, lost at home to Texas and lost in overtime to Baylor in Arlington. Tech's only victory was an overtime home win against Kansas.

Then Tech's coach, Tommy Tuberville, fled for an inferior job, Cincinnati, and the Raiders are left with a makeshift coaching staff for the Houston bowl against Minnesota.

High hopes fly with incoming coach Kliff Kingsbury, but Tech in this game will be guided by interim coach Chris Thomsen, who has been in Lubbock only since 2012 and appears headed to Cal-Berkeley to join Sonny Dykes' staff.

Hard to see how Tech's players can summon any commitment to this game from coaches. Minnesota is a 13 1/2-point underdog, but let's go with the Golden Gophers in the upset.
