Dana Holgorsen sounds like his mentor, Mike Leach, and runs an offense like Leach, and maybe has the same kind of patience with defensive coordinators.
Leach once famously fired his defensive coordinator, Lyle Setencich, after Texas Tech lost 49-45 at OSU.
Holgorsen is on his third d-coordinator in three years as West Virginia's head coach. Jeff Casteel left after a tumultuous 2011 season to rejoin Rich Rodriguez in Arizona. Joe DeForest was demoted after West Virginia's 2012 defensive debacles. Now it's Keith Patterson's turn.
Patterson was born in Marlow, attended East Central University and coached at Altus, Edmond Memorial, Edmond Santa Fe and Ardmore high schools. He went to the University of Tulsa with Steve Kragthorpe and eventually became Todd Graham's defensive coordinator at TU.
William & Mary was no real threat for West Virginia's defense last week, but OU will be Saturday. The Sooners have a green quarterback in Trevor Knight. If Patterson's defense gets lit up by OU, we can start the watch on yet another Leach/Holgorsen defensive coordinator.
