The Oklahoman ran a telling photo of OSU's Josh Stewart scoring a touchdown last Saturday against West Virginia. While Stewart dove into the end zone, not every pair of eyes in Boone Pickens Stadium were on Stewart.
Mountaineer coach Dana Holgorsen, shown in the background, stood with his back to the play. Holgorsen was no doubt disgusted at another big play allowed by his defense, but the scene was a snapshot of the questions about Holgorsen.
Brilliant offensive mind. But does he have the makeup to lead a major program? Holgorsen led West Virginia to an Orange Bowl victory last season, but the Mountaineers' first foray into the Big 12 has been disappointing.
The Mountaineers were 5-0 and ranked fifth after the first week of October, but now West Virginia is 5-4 and won't even be bowl eligible by Thanksgiving if it doesn't upset OU on Saturday.
Holgorsen isn't in danger of being fired. But there has to be doubts about his organization after the kicking game disasters in Stillwater and a complete lack of defense. In Big 12 games, West Virginia has allowed 63, 45, 49, 55, 31 (in regulation) and 55 points.
