But give Mack this. He usually wins close games. This season, Texas has survived OSU 41-36, Baylor 56-50 and Kansas 21-17, while losing 48-45 to West Virginia.

Under Mack, Texas is 3-0 in one-point games, 6-1 in two-point games, 12-4 in three-point games and 8-3 in four-point games. That makes the ‘Horns 29-8 in games decided by four points or less. That's an amazing record in games that are basically tossups.

So Saturday in Lubbock, can Texas keep it close? Tech's newfound defensive prowess has sprung a leak. Against the Red Raiders, OU scored 41, TCU scored 36 in regulation and Kansas State scored 55.

Tech will score on Texas, but if Texas can score on Tech, Mack could find a way to win it in the end. Tech is a 6 1/2-point favorite, but let's go with the Longhorns in the upset.
