Big 12 football: Go with West Virginia in an upset over Kansas State

Less than two years ago, West Virginia was winning the Orange Bowl by 37 points. This calendar year, Kansas State was in the Fiesta Bowl.

When West Virginia and K-State played last season, both were ranked and both sported Heisman Trophy-contending quarterbacks.

But two struggling teams will play Saturday in Manhattan, Kan. West Virginia is 3-4; Kansas State is 2-4. Neither is assured of a bowl berth. Both seem headed for the Big 12's second division. K-State has split time with two quarterbacks and hasn't settled on Daniel Sams or Jake Waters. West Virginia has split starts with three quarterbacks, apparently now settling on Clint Trickett.

Kansas State is a 10 1/2-point favorite. The Wildcats did play Baylor tough, before losing 35-25. But West Virginia beat OSU 30-21 in Morgantown and made Texas Tech sweat last week. Let's go with the Mountaineers in the upset.
