Paul Rhoads has brought fight back to Iowa State football. The Cyclones have been to two bowls in Rhoads' first three seasons; his Cyclones have beaten Nebraska, Texas and second-ranked Oklahoma State.
But a 24-13 home loss to Texas Tech has Iowa State climbing uphill to get back to bowl eligibility. The 3-1 Cyclones have to find three more victories, and they get to play Kansas only once.
Saturday, ISU plays at Texas Christian, and the 15th-ranked Horned Frogs have given the Cyclones an opening. Beleaguered TCU quarterback Casey Pachall has been suspended after a DWI arrest Thursday morning. The Frogs will go with redshirt freshman Trevone Boykin.
But it's not like Iowa State suddenly has a big quarterback edge. Steele Jantz already has thrown seven interceptions, and some are calling for Jared Barnett to replace Jantz, just as happened last season.
If the Cyclones are to make a bowl, they've got to steal a couple of wins. They might not get a better chance than this one.
