Big 12 football: Kansas' Charlie Weis on the hot seat this week

Kansas lost to Rice last season. Ugh. Then Kansas lost to Rice this season. Ugh-oh.

Charlie Weis' reclamation project with the Jayhawks hasn't gotten off the ground. He's 2-12 with KU. His victories are over South Dakota and South Dakota State.

Now Louisiana Tech comes to Lawrence for a game Saturday that is KU's best chance for another win in the 2013 season.

Kansas is running the ball OK — James Sims and Darrian Miller both average over five yards a carry — but for the second straight year, a transfer quarterback has proved less than capable.

Jake Heaps, from Brigham Young, has completed less than 50 percent of his passes. A year ago, Dayne Crist, from Notre Dame, was ineffective.

Weis isn't likely to be fired after only two seasons, mainly because KU just did that with Turner Gill and can't keep writing duplicate checks for a bad product.

But if Weis is to turn around the rampant pessimism of Kansas football, he has to start winning. No time better than Saturday.
