Here is a look at how Oklahoman columnist Jenni Carlson sees the 2014-15 Big 12 season playing out:
Best Player: Bryce Petty. The Baylor quarterback has a great arm, fleet feet and looks like he could play linebacker. Impressive athlete.
Best Coach: Art Briles. Making Baylor — Baylor?!? — into a consistent contender? Briles has done it.
Breakout star: Tyreek Hill. The Oklahoma State speedster will electrify when he has the ball in his hands, which will happen often.
Game of the Year: Baylor at OU. It will decide the conference title, and with two teams that’ll likely be in the national title picture, it could be an instant classic.
Upset of the Year: Kansas State at West Virginia, Nov. 20. Morgantown is always a tough place to win, and on a Thursday night, it’ll be even tougher for the Wildcats.
Coach on the Rise: Bob Stoops. Seems crazy to say the OU coach, but his national profile has improved dramatically in recent months and will only continue to climb this season.
Coach on the Way Out: Dana Holgorsen. West Virginia just hasn’t kept up since joining the Big 12 and will again finish near the bottom. Here’s betting Mountaineer fans are ready for change.
Conference Champ: OU. The defense shows signs of being stellar. The biggest question: can Trevor Knight stay on the field? He has to stay healthy for the Sooners to be at their best.
