Big 12 football: Ranking the opening week games

Berry Tramel ranks the Big 12 openers. OSU faces an SEC team at a neutral site, but it's hard to beat TCU and LSU's showdown in Arlington, Texas.

1. TCU vs. LSU in Arlington, Texas: LSU has lost two straight dome games, but before that, the Tigers had won nine straight indoors.

2. OSU vs. Mississippi State in Houston: Only other time OSU played in Reliant Stadium, it was against a Mississippi school, Southern Miss in the 2002 Houston Bowl.

3. Texas Tech at SMU: Mustangs haven't beaten Tech since pre-death penalty days.

4. Louisiana-Monroe at OU: Warhawks making Monroe known for something more than Duck Dynasty.

5. North Dakota State at Kansas State: Two-time defending I-AA champ Bison won at Colorado State in 2012 and at Minnesota in 2011.

6. Northern Iowa at Iowa State: ISU is 3-1 in the last four games of this series, and two of the wins were by one point.

7. New Mexico State at Texas: The Aggies fired Tony Samuel after the 2004 season; he had won 29 games the previous six years. Since then, New Mexico State has 21 wins in eight years.

8. Wofford at Baylor: Sounds worse than maybe it is. Wofford lost 24-7 at South Carolina last Nov. 17.

9. William & Mary at West Virginia: Sounds as bad as it is. William & Mary lost just 7-6 at Maryland to open the 2012 season, but the Tribe finished 2-9.
