OSU was picked to win the Big 12 football title, with OU second. At least according to Big 12-area media, which also has TCU third, Texas fourth, Baylor fifth and Kansas State sixth.

Judging by the preseason national polls, the Big 12 falls this way: OSU, Texas, OU, TCU, Baylor and Kansas State. That’s using a consensus of Athlon’s, Lindy’s, Phil Steele, USA Today and The Sporting News. That consensus has OSU 12th nationally, Texas 14th, OU 18th, TCU 20th, Baylor 25th and KSU 34th.

And now comes another voice: Las Vegas odds. According to oddsmaker Bovada, OSU and Texas are co-favorites to win the Big 12. Each is listed with 5/2 odds. OU is 3/1 and TCU is 15/4. So all four are very close. After them come Baylor and Kansas State (each 12/1), Texas Tech and West Virginia 25/1, Iowa State 40/1 and Kansas 100/1.

I guess I don’t really understand the odds all that well. Kansas should be more like 1,000/1.

But either way, it shows something quite clear. OSU has the attention of people nationally and regionally. Texas still has skeptics regionally. OU will have to prove a lot to a lot of people. And TCU is still considered a little bit of an outlier.
