Big 12 football: Will Mack Brown still be the Texas football coach come next week?

Mack Brown has coached 204 Longhorn football games. No. 205 comes Saturday at Baylor. No. 206, apparently, will come in a bowl game.

Will there be a No. 207?

Speculation about Mack's job status finally will become concrete, one way or another, soon after Saturday. Texas' 16-year football coach will be fired, he'll resign with dignity or he'll keep his job for a new boss, athletic director Steve Patterson.

And Mack says it hasn't been a point of conversation within the Texas football walls.

“I'm very unimportant and I absolutely have not mentioned it,” Mack said.

Well, the former's not true, but the latter probably is. And why should the future be paramount for the Texas football team, when the present still has its perks? If OU beats OSU in Stillwater, the Baylor-Texas winner is the outright Big 12 champ and goes to the Fiesta Bowl.

It's been quite a season for a team that started 1-2, with losses to Brigham Young and Ole Miss. Texas has navigated to a 7-1 Big 12 record, the only loss a 38-13 whipping courtesy of OSU.
