Big 12 has the best appeal, football and intrigue

The Bowl Championship Series and the old tiebreaker rule are still around, which is bad news for logic. Mike Leach is still around, which is bad news for the mainstream, not to mention boredom. And the asterisk in the Texas meeting room has come and gone, which is not necessarily good or bad news but should give people something to talk about in early October.

Aside from that? All the Big 12 has is the best combination of football, intrigue and appeal in the country, and it’s pulling away from the field.

While the Pac-10 obediently falls in line behind Pete Carroll; while the Big Ten reminisces about the 20th century; while the SEC delves into the pressing issues of our day, such as secret preseason all-conference ballots and the bedroom habits of quarterbacks; this oft-overlooked league in middle America continues to serve up not just style, but substance.
