The Big 12 and SEC announced Tuesday that the conferences will square-off in a men’s basketball challenge next season.
The Big 12/SEC Challenge will include five teams that are ranked in the top 25 preseason poll on ESPN.com: No. 1 Kentucky, No. 5 Kansas, No. 7 Florida, No. 11 Oklahoma State and No. 19 Baylor.
The premier match-ups are No. 1 Kentucky vs. No. 19 Baylor on Dec. 6 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas and No. 5 Kansas at No. 7 Florida on Dec. 10
The Sooners will face Texas A&M on Dec. 21 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. (Last season, the Sooners beat Texas A&M to win the All-College Classic.)
The challenge mark’s the first for Big 12 men’s basketball since the four-year series with the Pac-10 from 2007 to 2010. The Big 1 held the advantage 28-20 in that challenge.
“The Big 12 is excited to enter into another partnership with the SEC,” said Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “It will add more quality opponents to our schools’ annually strong non-conference schedules and provide an additional avenue to showcase some outstanding intersectional matchups.”
All of the games will be aired on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.
