Nos. 1, 8, 9 and 10 continue to be pretty straight-forward. Between them, though, any team is clearly capable of beating any other squad.
With that, here are the Big 12 women’s basketball power rankings for this week.
1. Baylor (24-1, 14-0 Big 12)
Last week: 1
Baylor has won 22 straight games and remains the nation’s No. 1-ranked team in both the AP and coaches’ polls.
2. Iowa State (18-6, 9-5)
Last week: 2
Iowa State had its four-game win streak snapped Sunday in a home loss to West Virginia, but the Cyclones also earned an important win at Oklahoma last week.
3. Texas Tech (19-7, 9-5)
Last week: 4
Tech lost at Baylor and beat Texas at home in the last week. The Raiders get an entire week off before playing next Sunday at Kansas.
4. Oklahoma (18-7, 8-5)
Last week: 3
The Sooners lost back-to-back games for the first time this season with Thursday’s home loss to Iowa State and Sunday’s defeat at Kansas. OU hosts Kansas State before next Saturday’s important Bedlam rematch in Stillwater.
5. Oklahoma State (18-6, 7-6)
Last week: 6
After being routed by Oklahoma in Norman, the Cowgirls earned an impressive win at West Virginia, and then easily handled Kansas State at home. OSU plays next Wednesday at TCU, then hosts OU next Saturday.
6. West Virginia (15-10, 7-7)
Last week: 5
West Virginia remains tough to figure out. The Mountaineers lost at home to Oklahoma State, then pulled a big upset at Iowa State.
7. Kansas (16-8, 7-6)
Last week: 7
Last week, Kansas barely squeaked by last-place TCU, but then comfortably handled Oklahoma in an upset at home. The Jayhawks play at Texas, then host Texas Tech this week.
8. Kansas State (13-12, 4-9)
Last week: 8
Kansas State beat Texas, then was obliterated at Oklahoma State last week. Next, the Wildcats play Wednesday at Oklahoma, which has lost two games in a row, then hosts Iowa State on Saturday.
9. Texas (9-15, 2-11)
Last week: 9
Texas continues to struggle through a tough 2012-13 season. The Longhorns started 0-7 in Big 12 play, then won two straight, and are now back on a four-game losing streak. Wednesday, Texas hosts Kansas, then plays at No. 1 Baylor on Saturday.
10. TCU (7-17, 0-13)
Last week: 10
TCU continues to struggle through its first Big 12 season. This week, the Horned Frogs get two home games to try and earn that elusive first conference game, but neither contest will be easy. TCU hosts Oklahoma State on Wednesday, then West Virginia on Saturday.
