This will be the third time Oklahoma City has hosted the Big 12 women’s basketball tournament, but the first time that will be played at the Chesapeake Arena, which has hosted the men’s Big 12 tournament in the past.

Chesapeake Arena has hosted three women’s NCAA Regionals, though, including last season, when Oklahoma lost in the Sweet 16 to Tennessee.

The Big 12 women’s tournament will be played in Dallas next year, and will return to Oklahoma CIty in 2016. Brassfield said his group hopes to host it as often as possible in the future.

“We love women’s athletics, as evidenced by our year,” Brassfield said. “We have an NCAA Women’s College World Series which has been so successful, and we have the NCAA volleyball championship coming in December. Anytime it’s available, we’ll certainly pursue hosting it here.”
