Big 12 basketball notebook: Bill Self says there will be a lot of 'Cinderella teams' during the NCAA Tournament

Kansas coach Bill Self said he believes this is a year that a lot of “Cinderella teams” will be part of the tournament.

“There may be three or four or fives teams that have separated themselves from the pack from the consistency standpoint, and then you've got a few teams that can beat those four or five teams if you catch them on the right day,” Self said. “It could be crazy. There will still be favorites, but there will not be major upsets in the NCAA this year.”

TCU COACH SEES NO “LONG-TERM BENEFITS” FROM BEATING KANSAS

Last Wednesday, conference cellar-dweller TCU got college basketball talking.

The Horned Frogs upset the Kansas Jayhawks, in what many called one of the worst upsets in college basketball history.

The next game, Kansas lost to Oklahoma — and TCU lost to West Virginia. TCU coach Trent Johnson was disappointed in his team's physicality against West Virginia. He also saw no “long-term benefits” from beating Kansas.

“It's about consistency and doing things the right way all the time,” Johnson said. “It's one of those games where, quite frankly, we played about as well as we can play.

“Our fans our happy, but the thing about being consistent is doing it day in and day out. We didn't do that against WVU.”
