LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Azia Bishop's developing comfort zone as a starter for Kentucky coincides with the Wildcats facing the toughest part of their schedule.
The 6-foot-3 junior took a big step forward filling in for injured senior DeNesha Stallworth in Thursday's Southeastern Conference opener at Alabama. Bishop made 6 of 10 shots from the field for a season-high 16 points with eight rebounds in the sixth-ranked Wildcats' 85-63 victory.
Kentucky (13-1, 1-0) seeks its seventh straight win over Florida (11-3, 1-0) in Sunday's SEC home opener, a game that presents Bishop another opportunity for growth as the Wildcats must slow down Gator guards Jaterra Bonds and January Miller. Florida in turn must find answers for senior forward Samarie Walker and Bishop, who's gaining confidence in her interim role with the Wildcats.
