Bixby's Christina Devers draws motivation from getting cut

SUPER 5 GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM — Christina Devers says she got nixed from a few teams when she was younger. Now a senior, Devers helped lift the Spartans into the 6A championship game and averaged 20.1 points.

“Of course, we wanted it to go better by bringing home a gold ball but I think we made history,” Devers said. “We did all we could do and it got us really far.”

Devers also benefited at the end from the earlier loss of star forward Stevi Parker.

Parker missed 11 games, and although the Spartans struggled during her absence, Devers had to learn to adjust without her.

“It made us a better team for when she got back,” Devers said. “It made other people step up and become better players and it made me make an effort to make other people better and get them more involved.”

Devers has signed with Central Arkansas.

The dimensions she added to her game this year figure to help her plenty at the next level.

“I like to share the ball, attack the hole and I will pull up and shoot,” Devers said. “I consider myself a pretty well-rounded player. I do what I need to do to help us win.”
