Black Mesa Brewing Co. announced today that its latest beer, Alexander Supertramp Dobbelbock, is set to appear in Oklahoma liquor stores as early as Friday.
To mark the occasion, Black Mesa has planned a launch party and other events. Check out the press release they issued today:
Oklahoma City-based brewer Black Mesa Brewing Co. is set to release its latest creation, Alexander Supertramp, on Friday. The launch party for the beer will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 14th. The Paramount, OKC will provide a special screening of Sean Penn’s film chronicling the journeys of Chris McCandless, aka Alexander Supertramp. On June 20th, Dunlap Codding will play host to The Rabid Believers, a top-notch collection of Oklahoma musicians, and serve Alexander Supertramp during Premier OKC.
Alexander Supertramp is a dopplebock-style beer fermented with ale yeast. Dopplebocks are traditionally dark, lager beers. “We challenged ourselves to create a dark beer for summer. The ale yeast adds a brightness and some dark fruity notes not commonly found with the style,” said Chris Sanders, Black Mesa co-founder and Head Brewer.
The beer’s name is a nod to the ethos adapted by Black Mesa, “all who wander are not lost.”
“We created this beer by acknowledging tradition but wandering from it. Although Chris McCandless met an unfortunate end, he embodied self-discovery through deliberate wandering. This beer is our toast to ramblers, backpackers, hitch-hikers, thru-hikers, blank places on the map, peak baggers, geo-cachers, gravel grinders and of course, supertramps,” said Brad Stumph, Black Mesa co-founder.
If you don’t want to wait for the launch party to try Alexander Supertramp, it could begin appearing on the shelves of liquor stores as early as Friday. The dopplebock has an ABV of 10.0% and will be sold in 750 ml (25.4 oz.) bottles.

The Rabid Believers consist of Derek Knowlton (Pretty Black Chains / The Stock Market Crash), Doug Jones (Taddy Porter), Johnny Martin (Ugly Suit / Mannachine), Josiah Reeder (Katskinners), and Pauly Creep-O (Katskinners). They will compose a special set to match the tone of Penn’s film that will be projected into Dunlap Codding’s courtyard during the event.
Pints and Pins
-Prairie has developed a nifty map that shows where their beers are available.
-Cool beer label dog collars available here, featuring some Oklahoma breweries, too.
-TapWerks announced they will be hosting watch parties with beer specials for USA soccer World Cup matches. Which brings me to a point of contention: Can American professional soccer teams please quit calling themselves “FC”? If you called the sport “football,” I would be fine with that. Can nobody call themselves “SC” instead? Geez.
-We should expect to see Choc’s annual Summer Ale and Wild Brew Belgian Stout four-packs hit store shelves soon.
