Fresh on the heels of the release of Red Badger Stout, Black Mesa Brewing Co. is preparing to release its next offering — and they’re putting a twist on a traditional style.
Alexander Supertramp Doppelbock is expected in stores by the beginning of May at the earliest. So what’s the twist? Black Mesa is brewing the doppelbock with an ale yeast, instead of the traditional lager yeast the style calls for.
I’ll let Black Mesa sales and marketing director Brad Stumph explain:
“Alexander Supertramp is the pseudonym Chris McCandless assumed in his travels through the West and into Alaska. His story is chronicled in Jon Krakauer’s book ‘Into the Wild.’ From Black Mesa’s perspective he is the embodiment of ‘All who wander are not lost’ (the mantra found in our logo). For our part, we set out to brew our take on a traditional doppelbock and in our wanderings from traditional style guidelines have decided to release a version brewed with an ale yeast.”
The beer will check in at 10% ABV and will be packaged in 750 ml bottles.
