Blake Griffin vs. Serge Ibaka: The NBA's new power (forward) struggle

by Erik Horne Published: November 14, 2013

The Blake Griffin-Serge Ibaka battle for power forward supremacy started off nice enough, but has evolved into something resembling a real rivalry. Here’s just a few of the back-and-forths between the two over the years.

Blake comes home, 2011: In Griffin’s first game in Oklahoma City, he nearly had a triple-double (28 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists), but the Thunder won 111-88. Ibaka came off the bench for six points and 10 rebounds.

Serge block in 2011: Serge served up this huge block of a Griffin dunk attempt April 2, 2011 (The two even laugh about it a little at the free throw line). The Clippers got the win 98-92, but the Thunder won Blake’s return home to Oklahoma City 112-108 four days later. Ibaka sent Griffin to the line late with the Clippers trailing by two with a chance to tie, and a missed free throw helped sealed the win for OKC.

Blake dunk in 2012: Blake does Blake-like above-the-rim things here, getting the best of Ibaka on a slam in April.

The Crotch Shot, 2013: Pretty ugly stuff here from Ibaka, who was not ejected. You just don’t go after a man’s manhood. This took the rivalry to the next level nationally.

The Ejection, 2013: Following “CrotchGate” maybe it was karma that Serge got booted Wednesday night. Ibaka and the Thunder were red-hot until his ejection, which fueled the Clippers to a 111-103 win.

The Thunder and Clippers meet again on Nov. 21 in Oklahoma City. What’s next in the Ibaka-Griffin saga?
